It has been brought to my attention that there is some confusion over a section of An Interview With Joseph Fosco pertaining to the extortion of Joseph Fosco. In the interview Mr. Fosco lists a specific instance where in 2003 he refused to cave in to pressure to pay extortion money to Mr. Rudy Fratto, an alleged agent of the Outfit. This is a specific mention of an extortion attempt. Later in the interview when Mr. Fosco says, “I refused to comply with this demand for money” he is referring specifically to this extortion attempt.
I felt that the point was clear enough on its own, but it appears I was mistaken.
Since there is some possibility of these comments being misconstrued or taken out of context, this note has been added. With the aid of input from Mr. Fosco, I would like to address a small section of the interview below. Clarifications are in red.
Please note that none of the original interview has been altered here.
JF: Giacchino required my family and me to pay him money. He was purportedly using my money to buy my safety. Giacchino reflected on an earlier experience that I had with Rudy Fratto Jr. who pulled next to me in traffic on Lake Street/Mannheim Road one afternoon in the fall of 2003, espousing that him and Cerone wanted money from me. Fratto knotted his head in the direction of D & P Trucking and said, "My older friends are starting to ask about you."
(This paragraph is a demand for money in the year 2003, by extortionist Rudy Fratto. This is what Mr. Fosco was referring to when he later states, "I refused to comply with this demand for money”)
AS: D & P Trucking?
JF: Yes. D & P Trucking is owned by members of the DiFronzo family. On the corner of Lake and Mannheim is a business owned by this company. So he meant the DiFronzos were asking about me.
AS: Was Rudy Fratto involved with Jack P. Cerone?
JF: My friendship with Cerone was compromised due to my sudden decision to quit spending money at his restaurant and gambling in his and Fratto’s sports gaming. I suppose I stand corrected. In an earlier statement I noted that I was not involved in Outfit business. I was, but it was only in the capacity as a gambler, not a bookie. I’m sure many others have participated in Outfit business in this way, many of them not even being aware they were doing it.
There was also the suspicion in some circles that I was in possession of money considered Outfit/Teamster ‘skim' left to me by my late father. Everyone wanted a piece of that imaginary pie.
(This paragraph is simply a point of interest. It indicates nothing specific about extortion and does not name anyone as an extortionist.)
Anyway, I refused to comply with this demand for money and several months later I was informed of the Outfit's threat on my life via FBI Agent Holt.
(This paragraph is Mr. Fosco's direct response to the earlier paragraph that Rudy Fratto is indicated as an extortionist, concerning the 2003 extortion attempt. This is not a reference to the Outfit’s successful 2002 extortion of Mr. Fosco, which was never mentioned in the interview.)
I hope this eliminates any confusion regarding this matter.
Thank you for your time.
